Dear Friend,

We have received thy liege lord’s notification, that Thou will attend together with thy valiant warriors the Royal conference held at Visegrád in the month of August 1335 AD., as part of his escort.
To assure Thou a secure road throughout the many dangerous lands that set apart our countries, and let Thou free passage through the vast lands of the Kingdom of Hungary, We hereby issue this Royal Travel Pass for Thy name, which is also to serve as an evident testimony of Thou and thy valiant warriors to be rightly authorised delegates of the above mentioned high royal meeting.
Asking God to assure His blessing over Thou and thy men, We look forward to greet Thou at our high royal court.

 Carolus Robertus Anjou
 Rex Hungariae

Campsite location, transport
The campsite is located near the village of Csobánka, 12 km. from Budapest, and can be reached easily by suburban train and bus service. The suburban trains (HÉV) run from Budapest-Batthány tér station towards Szentendre every 10-20 minutes (according to the time of the day). The Batthyány tér station is on the route of underground line M2, which links it with Budapest-Keleti and Budapest-Déli railway stations. Tickets for underground cost 100 HUF, the fare for the suburban railway to the station of Pomáz is 212 HUF (156 HUF for students having ISIC international student ID-cards).
At the suburban rail station Pomáz people from the camp staff will wait for the participants all day long on 13th august, and guide them to the special buses that run to the campsite (the fare is 50 HUF, or 25 HUF for people with ISIC cards).
Participants arriving by their own buses can reach the campsite from Budapest on the road No. 11 heading north towards Szentendre-Esztergom, before the town of Szentendre turning left towards Pomáz, and going through the village towards Csobánka-Dobogókő. Later 2 km after Pomáz turning left towards Csobánka. The campsite is just after the turn, on the left side of the road.

Some general words…
The CARPATHIA 2001 is the 6th International Jamboree of Central and Eastern European Scouts and Guides. As a continuation of the international camps initiated as Slav Scouts Jamborees in 1931 (Prague, Czechoslovakia) and 1935 (Spala, Poland), then continued after the war by Fenix 1997 (Prague, Czech Republic), Eurocor 1998 (Žarovica, Slovakia) and SAN 1999 (Sanok, Poland), this year it is organised by the Hungarian Scout Association.
When will it be and where?
The campsite is located in the green forest environment of the Pilis mountains, close to the town of Szentendre, near the village of Csobánka, about 20 kilometres north from Budapest. The camp's date is 13.-22. august 2001, with the participants having to arrive until 1600 of the first day, and can leave at 900 of the last day. If they wish to, participating troops are free to remain at the site after the camp, in this case they will have to organise food and programme for themselves. (Our association can find Hungarian troops who might help in this as a part of an international co-operation project - please inform us as soon as possible if You'd like to use this possibility). Troops arriving before the official time (on Sunday evening) are asked to announce that previously.
Who can take part?
Participants can be scouts and guides from the invited associations, aged between 14-21 years (young participants) and 18+ years (patrol and troop leaders), registered previously.
Scouts and guides not registered as participants can visit the camp any day between 9-18h, if they arrive in scout / guide uniform and connect the camp reception for a special visitors' ID card. One person can stay at the camp as visitor maximum two times.
About the programme
The camp's programme will consist of three big elements: common programmes for all the participants (such as the opening and closing ceremonies, the cultural festival and the closing party), subcamp programmes (subcamp day, camp rituals, campfires etc.), and the "modular" programme, which is centered on the five programme days on a rotational basis, and is composed of two kinds of programmes: the in-site activities and the all-day out-site programmes.

Subcamp Day
This day the programme will be centred on the subcamps, so the participating troops can get known each other in the beginning, through a series of games and group activities, including the formation of international patrols. The troops are asked to prepare some community games that can be played in a multilingual environment, as well as some typical food of their country / region that they can prepare for the event, as there will also be a gastronomy presentation.
Modular Programme
During the five programme days the subcamps will take part in the modular programme on a rotational basis. The four programme modules are: sightseeing and competitions in Budapest (1 subcamp), hike in the Pilis mountains (1 subcamp), sightseeing and competitions in Visegrád (1 subcamp), and ticketed activities (2 subcamps), including the "Medieval Village" (with a great variety of handicraft workshops), the Action Centre (survival, archery, rock climbing, caving, different sports etc.), the Water Base (canoeing on the Danube, sailing on a roman galeon etc.), the "Exploring Nature" block (environment track, orienteering, short hikes etc.), a number of walk-in activities (exhibitions, movies, Internet, badge making, workshops etc.) and the Miscellaneous Things (including guided tours to interesting places of the area, community service, radio amateur activities, horse-riding and some really crazy surprises).
Cultural Festival
For this event we'd like to ask the participating contingents to prepare a short cultural presentation (about 5-15 minutes), showing some aspect of their countries' cultural heritage (such as a dance choreography, music, songs, theatre etc.)
General information
Transportation: Participants will have to make their own way to the campsite, which is accessible by the means of public transport from Budapest by suburban railway (HÉV, departing from Budapest - Batthyány tér station towards Szentendre, to the station of Pomáz) and local bus service (Pomáz - Csobánka. Direct bus services run from Budapest Árpád Híd bus station to Csobánka). Camp staff members will wait for the participants at Pomáz rail station and guide them to the campsite. In the case of arriving by Your own vehicles, please inform us in advance, as there is limited parking space at the campsite. In the next information pack in April we'll send a detailed bus and rail timetable concerning traffic in these lines.

Insurance: The troop and / or patrol leaders are requested to arrange personal insurance for all the members of the unit. In the camp there will be medical assistance and security service, but we can't take responsibility for disappeared belongings left unattended at the camp.

Communication: The camp's official languages will be English and Hungarian, therefore the troop and patrol leaders should be able to speak one of these two languages at least in a basic level. In the subcamp staffs and the Information Centre there will also be people speaking most of the local languages (including Polish, Romanian, Slovak, Czech, Russian and Serbian-Croatian), however we can't guarantee that all of You will be instructed in your mother tongue.

Camp life regulations: Participants can leave the camp area only with permission, and of course during the programme events. In the camp and during the out-site programmes as well, everybody will have to wear the camp identity card. The camp's daily routine, especially the waking hour, the meal times and the night silentium will be taken seriously. Alcohol and drugs are forbidden at the camp, smoking is possible only for adults at the determined areas. The unit leaders will be responsible for the actions of the unit members.

What to bring?
Contingents are asked to prepare the cultural presentation together, as described above. There will also be possibility to arrange a national stand, with a material about Your country and Your association (pictures, posters, books, music, promotion and information brochures etc.), which should be visited by the participants as a walk-in activity. (Details of the stand area will be given in the next information pack in April.) Associations are welcome to bring and run some sort of activities with their own staff and equipment, in this case please contact us as soon as possible. The contingents are asked to bring a national flag of 2m x 1m size for the central camp gathering place.
We'd like each contingent to designate one person to be their press correspondent (taking part in the work of the camp newspaper redaction team).

Units are asked to bring with themselves tents to accommodate all the members (unfortunately there will be no possibility to hire tents at the site), a national flag of their country to be presented at the subcamp, and some typical food of their country / region for the subcamp day's gastronomy presentation. We'd like to ask one person in each troop to prepare a short language-course of  their language, and to prepare some simple folk dance of their country (with music on CD or MC) that they should teach to the others at the subcamp day. We ask the troops as well to "bring" a lot of games, songs etc., that they can teach to the others on the subcamp day and during the whole camp.

Participants will have to bring their own sleeping bags and mattresses, scout / guide uniforms, documents (passports and - if possible - international student ID-cards), small backpacks for hikes, plates, cups and cutlery (pots won't be needed), water containers and the general scout equipment needed in a normal camp. (Torches, pocket-knives, matches, rope, pen and paper etc.)

Accommodation, subcamps
The participants should take part on the event in 20-member troops, consisting of two 10-member patrols and one troop leader. Smaller units are possible, but the bigger ones will have to split for two smaller ones.
The troops will be accommodated in five subcamps, mixed by nationality, but the troop's patrols camping in the same place.
